Singapore, 5 September 2022 – Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) - Food & Beverage 2022, opens today to an expected 42,000 local and international visitors who rejoice to celebrate the industry at Asia’s largest international F&B showcase. The 4-day event was graced during the opening ceremony by a host of dignitaries including Guest of Honor - Mr. Alvin Tan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry & Culture, Community and Youth; H.E. Iwona Piórko, EU Ambassador to Singapore; Mr. Keith Tan from Singapore Tourism Board and Mr. David Tan, President of Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association.


The European Union (EU) Pavilion which is the Partner of Honour this year aims to improve the access of and create new market opportunities for EU agricultural products in Southeast Asia, tapping on the benefits of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and RCEP. Under the motto, “Enjoy! It’s from Europe” and “More than Food”, an emphasis is placed on GI and organic products from meat produce, dairy, to processed agricultural products. Amongst them is the Ireland’s Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue T.D. who is in Singapore to engage in a series of trade agreements to raise awareness of Ireland as a source of sustainable, safe, and high quality European food and drink. Bord Bia (the Irish Food Board) launches a three-year business strategy for South East Asia to raise export to S$1 billion by 2026, led by the dairy and meat sectors. This is also Bord Bia’s first in person trade mission since the onset of the pandemic.


Spanning over 60,000 square metres of exhibition space at the Singapore EXPO, Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) - Food & Beverage 2022 will showcase over 2,000 exhibitors from 56 countries and regions during 5-8 September 2022. This year FHA sees also the largest ever participation from international group pavilion such as Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, South Korea, and the Netherlands. More than 50 group pavilions across the world will come together to contribute to a platform where industry professionals across Asia can connect, trade, and discover the latest industry trends.


The 2022 edition of the historic tradeshow emphasizes thought-leadership as delegates enjoy over 75 exciting seminars and 100 international speakers over four days in three feature areas: Alternative Protein Asia, Halal Theatre, and FHA Seminar. The free-to-attend sessions and workshops bring together industry leaders, research and educational institutions including Singapore Food Agency, Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry, Asian Trade Center, Nanyang Poly, Asian Culinary Institute, Gira, WGSN, GlobalData, Lazada, foodpanda, HappyFresh, Nielsen IQ, Enterprise Singapore, NTUC Fairprice, Singapore Institute of Technology, Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis), Warees Halal Limited, Maybank, Cimbank, Ogilvy, Singapore Management University and many others.


Singapore’s largest alternative protein platform, Alternative Protein Asia (APA) debuts at FHA-Food & Beverage 2022


Estimated to be worth $36.61 billion by 2029, and APA is the natural progression for companies that address climate change while targeting affluent consumers in Asia’s markets.


The debut of a brand new 1,400sqm feature zone, Alternative Protein Asia (APA), dedicated entirely to plant-based and food-technology alternatives to animal proteins will feature some of the industry biggest names including Impossible Foods, Harvest Gourmet (Nestlé), First Pride (Tyson Foods), Tindle, Oatly amongst budding brands Finnebrogue, GrowthWell, Shiok Meats that seek to satisfy the region’s fast-rising demand for ‘fresh’ sources of proteins. The APA platform offers a B2B platform for a maturing industry vertical estimated to be worth $36.61 billion by 2029.


The alternative protein market will be heavily influenced by Asia’s large population and its increasing appetite for meat and protein. Alternative Protein Asia (APA) is to facilitate business, ease investor relations, provide a start-up competition, a tasting bar and offers a four-day thought-leadership conference including the Good Food Institute, SaladStop!, Big Idea Ventures, AgFunder, CSIRO, Euromonitor, TurtleTree Labs, ProVeg International, Innovate360 and many others.


APA further seeks to address sustainable practices since the global food system accounts for 26% of current global greenhouse gas emissions and investing in alternative proteins has one of the biggest impacts on decarbonization, with the highest CO2 savings per dollar of any sector (WeForum).

FHA Culinary Challenge – a culinary showdown amongst best-of-class chefs

In association with the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WorldChefs) and supported by the Singapore Chefs’ Association (SCA) and regional chefs’ associations, the FHA Culinary Challenge is the ultimate arena for culinary talents from around the world to display their gastronomic skills and be accredited by a panel of internationally acclaimed judges recognised by WorldChefs. The 4-day competition feature a series of thematic challenges.


This year’s panel include:

  • Chief Judge: Otto Weibel, Director and Honorary President Emeritus of SCA

  • Assistant Chief Judge: Eric Teo, Culinary Director of ET Culinary Arts, President Mentor of Singapore Chefs’ Association

  • Guest of Honour: Willment Leong, Continental Director Asia of World Association of Chefs' Societies


Sustainability Efforts Pave the Way at FHA-Food & Beverage 2022

As part of its sustainability efforts, FHA-Food & Beverage 2022 has:

  • Effectively eliminated over 8,000 metres of aisle carpet, reducing over 24 tons of carbon emissions and over 6 tons of waste saved from landfill.

  • A dedicated recycling zone for both exhibitors and visitors where recyclable materials such as paper, aluminium, glass bottles, and even used cooking oil can be deposited, saving energy while conserving natural resources.

  • Uses renewable electricity throughout the 4-day event

  • Set up a food bank where exhibitors can donate their excess products and samples to Food Bank Singapore, their official charity organisation

Upcoming: FHA HoReCa happening on 25-28 October 2022

Curated for partners in the food service and hospitality equipment, the FHA-HoReCa (Hotel, Restaurants and Cafes) will take place on 25-28 October as ahighly focused platform for the food service industry. Over 800 confirmed exhibitors from 40 countries including 15 international group pavilions have been announced. It is specially conceptualised to serve distributors, importers, manufacturers and retailers from Asia under one roofall with the vision to accelerate the growth of the HoReCa industry through unveiling new to market innovation and sharing of best practices.
