Yodobashi Camera has selected Exotec’s Skypod system to drive the efficiency of retail distribution and e-commerce fulfillment.
TOKYO – Today Exotec NIHON Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan, Managing Director Ryu Tatewaki), a wholly owned subsidiary of Exotec SAS (headquartered in Croix, France, CEO Romain Moulin), announced that Yodobashi Camera Co., Ltd. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan, President and CEO Kazunori Fujisawa), a major Japanese general electronics retailer, has decided to implement the Skypod system across several of its warehouse facilities in Japan.
Exotec’s automated goods-to-person solution, the Skypod system, utilizes robots that can reach a height of 12m (39 ft) to enable high-density inventory storage. The system helps automate manual physically intensive tasks and reduces the order fulfillment time by driving efficiency throughout the warehouse.
“Before making the decision, I saw the Skypod system in action at one of the warehouses in France. The high performance of the system as well as the ability to easily expand it in response to changing market needs made it the best solution for Yodobashi Camera.” says Kazunori Fujisawa, President and CEO, Yodobashi Camera Co., Ltd. “We have high expectations for Exotec to improve our warehouse performance.”
“We are delighted that Yodobashi Camera has chosen to use our solutions across their warehouses. Japan continues to be a key market for Exotec, and we are excited to see the continuous momentum in the country.” Says Exotec CEO and Co-founder Romain Moulin. “Our first foray into the market was the deal with Uniqlo in 2019 and we believe this new partnership with Yodobashi Camera speaks to the Japanese market recognizing the value that our Skypod system brings to the table. This partnership further accelerates our global expansion and brings us a step closer to becoming the leader in warehouse robotics by 2025.”
“Yodobashi Camera is an e-commerce stalwart well-known for its seamless shopping experience and fast delivery. They also have a strong brick-and-mortar presence in urban areas. We are confident that Yodobashi Camera will successfully utilize the Skypod system to drive efficiency across its complex omnichannel logistics operations.” says Ryu Tatewaki, Managing Director of Exotec NIHON “We are strengthening our organization to solidify our customer support in Japan and plan to increase our presence to 100 employees by end of 2023. We intend to expand our presence in Japan to become one of the top 5 warehouse robotics companies in the market by 2025.”
